Yes, contrary to popular belief, school has started. Most likely for everyone at this point. It's boring and saps away precious free time, like normal. It doesn't help that 4 of my classes have more or less no one i know in them and that my 6 period class (which has the best people in it) has a bad teacher (Think feminine drill instructor who doesn't stop talking and takes it upon herself to be complete dictator of the classroom). Anyways, how are your guy's schedules? (Be it college or high school)

Have to memorize stuff for class... Whut phun...

Yeah, as part of my english final, I have to memorize a 14 line segment from Romeo and Juliet. I've chosen the first part of one of Friar Laurence's monologues. It isn't really difficult to memorize, more than it is boring as hell. At any rate, her is what I have memorized now:

The grey eyed morn smiles on frowning night;
Chequering the eastern clouds with streaks of light
As flecked darkness the drunkard reels;
from forth day's path and Titan's fiery wheels.
Ere' the sun advances his burning eye
the day to cheep and night's dank dew to dry;
I must up-fill this osier cage of ours
with baleful weeds and precious-juiced flowers.

Yeah, it doesn't seem like a lot, but try saying it outloud and it sounds like a lot more, lol. I hope i'll have the rest done by friday. Shouldn't be too hard though, I hope.

Finished Episode 2!

Blog Code

I just finished episode 2, and man I can't wait for episode 3 even more now! The last battle wasn't nearly as hectic or difficult as I thought itd be though. I ran out of ammo and ended up killing the hunters via ramming them with the car. :P

Well, I just recently got episode 2, and I have been playing it like crack. Unfortunately this week is the last week of school and hence, is crunch time as far as getting stuff done goes. How do you guys like episode 2 and how many of you can't wait for episode 3? Also, NO SPOILERS! I haven't finished the game yet. Seriously, if you spoil something, I break out the netstabber. Hehehe.....

Australia banning laser pointers... Wait, what?

SO I just read that Australia is apparently banning some types of laser pointers and making it an offense to carry any lasers unless you have a lawful reason to do so. (You are an educator etc etc) This strikes me as odd and sorta weird. I don't know, maybe I am missing something. If you know more about this (Preferrably you live in AU so you know more about it) Then please clarify some of these things, if you can. A couple of the weird things about it are:

"Police will have powers to frisk people they suspect of carrying lasers and those without reason to have them - such as educators, architects or astronomers - will be fined up to $5000."

5 Grand??? Seems a little excessive to me...

"Class three and four laser pointers will be declared prohibited weapons and carrying them could attract a maximum penalty of 14 years' jail, he said."

That also seems a little excessive to me, but Iono.

Ideas on how to advertise NR?

I know that a lot of people realize this, (and if you don't then you need a good smack on the head) that the forums are (as chalkley3 puts it) stagnating. I was thinking that we should all go and advertise it in at least one place. And not a half-assed advertising attempt either, what I mean sis to ring in some new activity here. I think flyers would be a good (albeit old-fashioned and cliche) way to advertise the site. That being said, Chalkley makes some damn good artwork/badges for the site already and I think we could request (read- force) him to make some nifty artwork that each of us could download, slap on a flyer along with the URL and whatnot, and plaster it all over our respective towns.

What do you guys think about my idea, and what are your ideas about how to advertise NapalmRiot?

Second round of old gems from the manual!

Ok, I've started reading the complete idiots guide to PCs again for the second time today. Found some more funny stuff. From the section called "Part 3: Guerrilla Computing"

"If you want some free advice, here goes. Don't even think of buying a 386SX, or ay 386, for that matter. In addition, because of the new Pentium chip, computer stores are offering fantastic deals on 486 machines."

"The latest, greatest chip: the PowerPC"

"The minimum memory your computer should have is 4 megabytes. Any less, and Windows programs plod along like a box turtle in midsummer. Also, make sure you can add RAM if needed."

"A small hard disk is about 80 megabytes. Large hard disks can be over 500 megabytes."

"Many computers come with 80 megabyte hard disks, which store about 15 programs plus some files you create, if you're lucky. Microsoft Windows alone requires 6 to 8 megabytes, and it's not uncommon for programs to require over 20 megabytes."

"Three years ago, I bought a computer with 2 megs of RAM. I was convinced that windows would never catch on, and 2 megs would be plenty for the work I had in mind. Boy was I wrong. Once I fired up Windows 3.1, I realized how wrong I was. I couldn't even get it to run in enhanced mode so I could set up some virtual memory. I had to slap 4 more megs of memory into my computer to satisfy it."

"The chip type can be DIP(dual in-line package), SIP(single in-line package), or the more popular SIMM(single in-line memory module).... Common capacities are 256k, 512k, and 1M."

"The card should handle 1024 by 768 resolution and 256 colors. It should have a 72hz refresh rate and 1M video RAM."

"Understand what Al Gore means when he talks about the 'Information Superhighway'"

"Common baud rates include the following: 1200, 2400, 4800, 9600, and 14,400."

It is fun to go back and look through your old manuals and remember what things were like back then. If you find anything funny like that, be sure to post it!

The joys of computing in 1994.

Blog Code

So I was going through some old computer manuals I have and was reading through some of them. One of the ones I read part of was "The Complete Idiot's guide to PCs" Bound to have many humorous things in it, and it does. My favorite, laughable things, that I have found so far is this small passage: :Most computers come with a minimum of 2 megabytes of RAM, but to use Microsoft Windows, your computer should have 4 megabytes of RAM or more."

And at the end of that, it links you to chapter 8, where it explains more about "the mysteries of RAM and computing." Another golden passage is: "In addition to being disk hogs, many programs are memory hogs, requiring 2 to 4 megabytes of memory before they even say hello."

In telling you all this, I invite you to have a good laugh and to share your stories/passages/etc that are also of this flavor. Humor is always good!

Jack went and got his ass sanctioned by the Florida supreme court. A sanction in the legal sense, according to wikipedia, is defined as:

Sanctions are usually monetary fines, levied against a party to a legal action or his/her attorney, for violating rules of procedure, or for abusing the judicial process. The most severe sanction is the involuntary dismissal, with prejudice, of the complaining party's cause of action, or of the responding party's answer. This has the effect of deciding the entire action against the sanctioned party without recourse, except to the degree that an appeal or trial de novo may be allowed because of reversible error.

Favorite line in that article is: "Well the long and short of it is that Thompson will no longer be able to file cases directly to the courts but instead will have to hire another lawyer to do so on his behalf." THANK YOU, FLORIDA SUPREME COURT! Can I get some Hurrahs going for them? All thats left now is for them to disbar him...

Seems like everyone is doing a spring break blog!

Meaning mine won't be about spring break, but rather about something almost as magical. We get spring break here in like two weeks, but the magical thing is that the week right after spring break, it is WASL week. WASLs are my state's standardized tests. Freshmen (that'd be me) don't have to take them, so I automagically get a late start, meaning school doesn't start until 10 AM. The other awesome thing is that the freshman have student-led conferences that week. The conferences are stupid, but the fun thing is that they give everyone early release so that people can do them. (They probably last like...15 minutes max) Early release means school is out two hours early, at 12:37. To sum it all up, in the week right after spring break, I have 2 1/2 hour school days all week! Anyone have anything similar?
